New Prison In Sri Lanka Agunakolapalassa Foundation stone was laid for Angunakolapelessa new prison by Speaker of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka,Hon. Chamal Rajapaksha on auspicious time at 9.55 a.m. on 16th May 2014, with the presence of Minister of Disaster Management Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera , with the invitation of Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison reforms Hon.Chandrasiri Gajadeera and Deputy Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison reforms Hon.Chandrasiri Muthukumarana. Construction of this new prison is performed under the guidance and direction of the Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison reforms Hon.Chandrasiri Gajadeera, with the intention of shifting Tangalle Prison, in order to realize the vision of H.E.President.This prison is to be constructed within 58 acres extended area with an expense of Rs.4996 million. This project is due to complete on year 2015 and all inmates in Tangalle remand prison and about 1000 inmates presently detain in Welikada prison will be shifted to the new prison where approximately 2000 detainees can be conveniently detain.This new prison consists with prison hospital, vocational training center, separate building for industries, 140 quarters for officers, and quarters for single officers. Moreover it consists of a play ground with 400m track, swimming pool with the length of 25m, indoor stadium and trade complex to sell prison productions.
